136. How You Can Stay Motivated In The New Year

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

How You Can Stay Motivated In The New Year

I know that you’ve got big goals and plans for the new year, and you’re excited right now, but how are you going to keep that drive alive and stay motivated to reach your goals? Honestly, the answer might surprise you. Also, make sure to stick around to the end because I have a really exciting announcement to share with you!!

I have a really good friend, Michael, that runs a really successful business and has several employees and is just one of those guys that is a real go-getter. And he loves to workout. It’s practically in his DNA. I’ve trained him at his office from time to time, and I can count on him showing up early, never complaining about a thing, going 110%, and asking for more. This guy is motivated.

Now, in that exact same environment, he has an employee (let’s call her Cara) that I have also trained from time to time that does NOT enjoy health and fitness stuff at all. If there’s an inkling of a reason to not show up, she’ll cancel. She’s usually looking for the escape route at almost every session (I’m not even asking her to work that hard!) She’s just not motivated at all. She knows she needs to do it, it’s good for her, but there’s no desire there...no real drive.

I have a feeling that you probably identify more with Cara than Michael. I know this because in the Strong Mommas Squad FB group questions: what do you need the most help with? It’s interesting, but honestly not surprising to me that almost every other request mentions that they need the most help with motivation.

As the new year is just around the corner, it’s always an excellent time to turn a new leaf, to recommit to your health, to vow to show up for yourself and make your body and self care a priority. But how can you bridge the gap between feeling like Cara and becoming more like Michael?

WHAT MATTERS MOST

Today I’m going to teach you the things that matter the most when it comes to your motivation, so that the goals that you have for your body in the new year don’t flop and fizzle out after just a couple weeks.

How Can You Stay Motivated in the New Year?

  • This very first, and most important!, tip is understanding that you won't stay motivated in the new year.
  1. Motivation is an emotion
  2. Don’t rely on whether or not you feel motivated that day to follow through on your action steps
  3. You need to make sure that your actions, the things you’re going to DO to reach the goals you have, are bulletproof...doable enough to show up and do, whether or not you feel motivated
  4. JUMPSTART30 - “I really didn’t feel motivated, but I opened up my app and saw that it was just a 9 minute stretching routine, which seemed totally doable, and I did it anyway and I’m so glad that I did!”
  5. Make sure that you have accountability for when you don’t feel motivated
  6. The more layers of accountability the better!

  • Have a SOLID WHY
  1. What is your real reason for showing up and making it happen? What motivates you?
  2. For me, I’ve tasted and seen what it feels like to be really fit, fast and lean and not in pain anywhere. If I could feel that way everyday, sign me up. Also, I’m very motivated by a sense of accomplishment. These things are hardwired into my personality.
  3. Take some time to think about why showing up for your body matters to you.
  4. Write it down

  • Create benchmarks & celebrate like crazy when you reach them
  • The rule of 3’s:
  • 3 weeks: start to notice the shift and the effects of your consistent habits
  • 3 months: begin to a real physical change
  • 3 years: you’ve reached the point of a lifestyle
  • Set your benchmarks out in front of you and commit to moving forward until you reach that timeframe benchmark. Be faithful to that commitment.
  • When you reach one of those benchmarks, celebrate and be thankful for you victories!
  • All throughout Scripture, God commanded His people to celebrate. To pause and be thankful for their victories and God’s faithfulness.
  • Isaiah 63:7 – I will tell of the kindnesses of the LORD, the deeds for which he is to be praised, according to all the LORD has done for us.
  • Pausing and remembering how far you’ve come, how far God has brought you, and celebrating that!!

Summary:

The big idea here is that if you’ve got big goals and plans for the new year, and you’re excited right now, but you’re nervous that you won’t be able to stay motivated long enough to reach those goals, remember that you won’t always feel motivated and that’s completely ok. But you have plenty of tools at your disposal to help you keep showing up anyway and make a difference.
