Pain, Posture, and Your Fascia: What’s the REAL Connection?

What’s a Rich Text element?

The rich text element allows you to create and format headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, images, and video all in one place instead of having to add and format them individually. Just double-click and easily create content.

Static and dynamic content editing

A rich text element can be used with static or dynamic content. For static content, just drop it into any page and begin editing. For dynamic content, add a rich text field to any collection and then connect a rich text element to that field in the settings panel. Voila!

How to customize formatting for each rich text

Headings, paragraphs, blockquotes, figures, images, and figure captions can all be styled after a class is added to the rich text element using the "When inside of" nested selector system.

Fascia.

It’s been a little bit of a buzzword in fitness circles recently, but fascia still seems to be this mysterious thing in our body…maybe even a little misunderstood. If you feel like you’re always dealing with pain, tension, body stress, maybe even headaches, it might be really valuable to learn more about your fascia, in fact I think everybody should.

Well I asked the fascia queen herself to come on the podcast with us this week!

Jill Miller, C-IAYT, ERYT, YA-CEP fascia expert, has 30 years of corrective movement expertise that forges links between the worlds of yoga, massage, athletics, and pain management.

Jill is the former anatomy columnist for Yoga Journal, has been featured in New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Shape, Women’s Health, O, the Today Show, and is a contributing expert on the Oprah Winfrey Network. She is the author of several bestselling books and has collaborated with countless experts in the fitness industry.

She just released her new book is Body by Breath: The Science and Practice of Physical and Emotional Resilience.

In this interview, we talk all about pain, fascia, posture and even breathing.

Some of the questions I asked Jill:

  1. Can you tell me the “hamburger bun” story and how that was the genesis for everything that you do today?
  2. A word I hear women say a lot is “stuck”. Is that something you can personally identify with? And how can breath and fascial work become the gateway to being unstuck?
  3. Can you explain what fascia is, and what is self-myofascial release? What are the benefits?
  4. Why do we hold our breath and clench when we experience pain? How is this counterproductive, especially when we’re doing myo-fascial work?
  5. Would you be willing to guide us through a breathing exercise so we know what to pay attention to?
  6. What is one simple thought or tip that you would encourage everyone listening to implement?
